The need for TRACIE
The data tells a clear story:
60%
60% of Black students in the GTA say racism is a regular part of their school experience
(Dumas & Ross, 2016).
3X
Black students in the Toronto District School Board are suspended at 3x the rate of their non-Black peers.
(TDSB Safe and Caring Schools Report, 2020–2021).
33%
1 in 3 Black students report being treated unfairly by school staff.
Racism in schools continues to harm Black students and families across Ontario and Canada. Existing systems for addressing these incidents are slow, inconsistent, and emotionally exhausting. Many families are forced to relive painful experiences with little support, no clear path to resolution, and no guarantee of being believed.
TRACIE was created to change that. It simplifies the process of documenting racism, stores critical evidence securely, and gives families the tools they need to hold school systems accountable.
How TRACIE works
1. Document the incident
Capture details in real time with photos, video, voice notes, or written reports.
2. Securely store
Keep all evidence organized in one private place for easy access.
3. Take action
Use your documentation to report the incident, request support, or build your advocacy case.
